My Thoughts on How to Save America (from Itself) - by Carlen Altman

Hi I'm Carlen and this is what I think will save America...
BELOW IS A MANIFESTO OF SORTS...
On What I Want to Do to Save America (from Itself...)

Congress voted to go forward building the toxic Keystone XL Pipeline AND North Dakota just passed an anti-abortion law called the "Personhood Measure" , an irrational amendment that says a woman cannot have an abortion under ANY circumstance, even if she is raped.
WTF?
To top it off, a horrible company called Monsanto (which you may have heard about on this horrible blog HERE) has gotten the Monsanto Protection Act  passed, which allows the unsafe planting of new untested Geneticall Modified Organisms (GMOS). GMOS are completely unnecessary to our agricultural system, and cause terrible health problems!
HERE ARE SOME RATS WHO WERE FED GENETICALLY MODIFIED CORN. (HOPE THEY AT LEAST GOT TO EAT SOMETHING TASTY LIKE SMACKS CEREAL OR SOMETHING GROSS AND FUN! :/

But, WHAT. IS. GOING. ON (?) in the last few years in terms of crazy laws being passed which only protect the richest of the rich white men?

Didn't I vote for Cool Guy Obama and take part in this "You Don't Own Me" PSA to avoid lots of horrible things from happening to our mothers and only planet during a potential Romney administration/nightmare?
CLIP FROM THE "YOU DON'T OWN ME" PRO OBAMA PSA I WAS IN BEFORE THE 2012 ELECTION :/
I just have a feeling that as long as he and all politicians are allowed to take money from corporate donors, they will be forever TORN between appeasing their corporate donors/lobbyists (usually really rich bald jerks who don't care about human life outside their immediate group of unstylish 1% friends and have lots of money to bribe politicians) and appeasing their other constituent.

Even though I intentionally do not watch the news or read newspapers (thanks 4 Hour Workweek!) I still wanted to figure out exactly how I felt about certain things, so I could see how similar or different my views are from our current politicians.
IT WOULD BE OK TO GO READ A BOOK OUTSIDE AND NOT FEEL BAD ABOUT"WASTING TIME!"
CHILDREN'S BOOK WRITER RICHARD SCARRY PRETTY MUCH SUMMED UP THE IMPORTANT JOBS
*Anyone who believes businesses NEED to be open 5 days a week must take a look at how much Internet surfing/Facebooking their employees do during a typical workweek.  Don't be mad at them. Just let employees use that time to actually connect with their families and friends rather than half-assing at both their job and relationships!
...(WASTE 3/4TH OF THEIR DAY DAYDREAMING/ONLINE WHEN THEY COULD BE ENJOYING LIFE!)
THE WORST CRIMINAL OFFENDERS HAVE TO GO TO A CONCERT BY THIS BAND. JK WHAT IS THIS?
4) EDUCATION
Teachers and schools should receive more funding than any other segment of tax money. ALL schools should receive the same (high) amount of money towards books and teacher salaries, regardless of whether the school is located in a "low-income" or "high-income" area. That way, all students would receive the same curriculum.
In the area of diet/nutrition, students should be taught in schools from pre-school onward with an emphasis on a vegan diet, vitamins and a lot of exercise.
5) AGRICULTURE
Only organic (naturally fertilized/ non-GMO) food will be available for purchase. Yes, this will make crops more difficult to grow but as it stands now, we waste over 33 million tons of food last year. I think we can afford to have less food production if it will only be sustainable production.
In the area of Government Subsidies, the corn, soy, dairy and meat industries will no longer receive any sort of government financial subsidies.
Instead, the (all organic) fruit, vegetable (besides corn), nut and grain industries will receive those subsidies. That way, organic nutritious delicious food will be less costly to consumers . Fast Food restaurants will look like and have menus similar to The JuicePress (think chia pudding and actually tasty kale salads) but have McDonald's prices.
Similarly, only sustainable weather-appropriate farming will take place - there won't be an orange grove farm planted in say, Northern Canada where it is unsustainable /unnaturally grown indoors by heavy lights - instead, in colder climates, there will be farms containing cold-weather hardy plants such as broccoli and root vegetables.
Toxic/non-natural pesticides such as Monsanto's Round Up Ready will be illegal.  Obviously if we have less food production, all produce will be much more expensive but this will in turn make people more selective in the quantity of food they purchase, and will hopefully lead to a decline in obesity.*
GROSS
Similarly, at birth, each person should receive a genetic analysis (hair/saliva sample test) which will determine which diseases they are predisposed for, and in turn should have to adhere to this analysis's results /  stick to a diet/vitamin/exercise regimen that prevents them from illness/discomfort. The more a person sticks to their determined ideal diet/lifestyle, the lower the cost of their health insurance.
Just in the way it is illegal to kill another human being, there would be punishments for killing animals.
*(Mosquitoes and other nagging insects should be sucked up into humane traps and let go in the wild, away from residential and urban areas.)
All areas of the meat production and otherwise should be given a federal grant/mandatory upgrade to convert their businesses into alternative meat agriculture/production - an example of a brand I would want installed into the meat production industry is Beyond Meat . They make the best fake meat out there and are created by the creators of Twitter.
HERE IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT A CLASS TRIP TO A SLAUGHTERHOUSE
In other areas of Animal Treatment... Zoos will be banned, All hunting will be banned, all fur will be banned (only synthetic materials will be used) - this includes the banning of non conventional animal products like silk (from silk works) and feather down (violently plucked from live animals), as well as the banning of weird animal usage like insects being used in Starbucks drinks)
STARBUCKS USES BUGS TO MAKE RED COLORED PRODUCTS
Any fur/leather that is sold, is to be from animals that have naturally shed their fur or died of natural causes. It sounds crazy but IT IS VERY POSSIBLE (and probably fun!?)
THIS FUNKY ELDER MADE A COAT OUT OF HER HEALTHY DOG'S SHEDDINGS
OOH LALA!
Fur techniques are so advanced that you can dye patterns into the fur. However, it's not worth the horrible pain involved, when fake versions are available that don't harm animals!
11) INDUSTRY/FACTORY PRODUCTION
Additionally, any production at the factory should be sure not to damage the health of the workers (abolishing ALL sweatshop conditions), the health of the consumer (illegalizing any product that makes people sick - from outlawing products with unhealthy ingredients like High Fructose Corn Syrup or Parabens - 2 ingredients which MANY household products currently contain)
In factories, only NECESSARY items will be created in the factory system. (IE. only pharmaceuticals/train parts/renewable car parts/building materials for housing / solar panels/vitamins)
Additionally, all plastic bags (given out at the groceries) will be outlawed . Customers must bring their own reusable bag. Did you know there is basically an island in the middle of the ocean called the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch"  MADE OUT OF GARBAGE! (Mostly plastic bags, bottles and other things you can currently buy and forget about... ) Isn't that crazy?
All packaging for all products must be renewable (and recycling must be MANDATORY) or if not renewable, must biodegrade in 5 years time maximum.

12) WAR/WEAPONS
The only weapons allowed will be boxing gloves and in the case of self-defense, tranquilizer guns.

13) PRISONS
The good thing is, rich people (+$100k salaried-people) won't be so angry about their funds going towards "the needy" because they will have enough leisure time and money to accomplish all the fun things they want!  Human greed does not trump happiness.
Similarly, if you eat unhealthy foods or are overweight, you will be taxed more to help pay for health care.
Lobbying will be illegal and all presidential decisions will be based on protecting the health of the planet, and people all over the world. Economic success will be based on the physical health of our planet/people and low incidence of crime.
(If prostitution and a shorter workweek mixed with higher income is enacted, I have a feeling there will be far less crimes committed!)
Like Romney, SO many companies that donated to the Obama re-election campaign, are financially dependent on running their industries with really lax environmental laws - laws that allow them to do things like dispose toxic emissions in our oceans, pollute our air, and mistreat animals and human workers alike.
Also, all murderer's organs should be used for science/donated to those people around the world awaiting organ transplants.
On that lovely note, I think I am done writing my manifesto!
Sort of sorry this blog is becoming less and less fashion-y or comed-y but I feel like the more research I do, the more I feel like something BIG has to change in the way we run our society or the planet is going to like collapse or something...

Sort of sorry this blog is becoming less and less fashion-y or comed-y but I feel like the more research I do, the more I feel like something BIG has to change in the way we run our society or the planet is going to like collapse or something...
If you want to do something,
We are not powerless!
Not to be a Debbie DOWNER, but is a really sad day today in American politics.

Don't get me wrong, I know how lucky I am to be born in America, and I do not take any of my rights for granted. I think I live in such an amazing beautiful country that gives people unbelievable opportunities and let's people live their lives in relative peace...

Truthfully, I don't think Obama is a bad guy , nor do I think he is secretly apathetic about environment or climate change or people or anything else, or secretly doodling Occult-ish triangles with Rihanna and the IlluMiNauGhtY.

I try to live by the motto "If You Want Something Done, You Have To Do It Yourself", so rather than just passively disliking Obama on worthless Facebook posts, or feeling like a victim to our political landscape, (or more specifically our political landscape's destruction of our actual landscape/PLANET,) I have tried to be more engaged in everything going on around me - and as a first step, have tried to articulate how I clearly feel about the issues that our presidential candidates have to take stances on .

Here are my views on some important issues and these are the kinds of policies I would institute (if I were ever president, or could invent a "dream president"/perfect government)..Obviously these views may seem very simplistic and potentially alienating to some (my lone blog reader, please don't go!) but these are my general feelings. I just want this country to be the best it can be!

1) WORKING/AMERICAN SCHEDULES
Under my "ideal presidential administration"/in my idea of a perfect society, the workweek in the United States (and all industrialized nations) will be 3 days a week instead of 5 and will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. All forms of workers (excluding farmers, doctors, veterinarians, firemen and police) will only work 3 days a week, and the other 4 days a week will be spent on leisure/family-time: self-guided learning, exercising, spending time with family members and friends.
People will have to plan their week accordingly, with the knowledge that they will only be able to do certain work and school activities on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. (A micro-example of this is Siesta in Spain; people just accept the fact that stores will be closed in the afternoon and plan their lives around it)

For the important professions that are open 5-7 days a week (farmers, doctors, ambulance drivers, hospital workers, firemen and police) - they will be paid more than anyone else in society and treated with the utmost respect and given the most fame and media attention.

2) HUMAN RIGHTS
It will be illegal to hurt another human being, emotionally or physically. From Preschool onwards, if a human hurts another being, (from verbal taunting to domestic violence) they will have to be punished through community service, with mandatory volunteer work at either a soup kitchen or an assisted living institution for the elderly. For every verbal or physical incident, no matter how small or large, there will be a minimum of 24 hours of community service (at the choice of the victim, from a list of local (non-insane) charities in their city.)
3) URBAN+SUBURBAN PLANNING/HOUSING
All humans will live in concentrated cities where everyone can walk or take public transportation to get anywhere they need to go - including to other cities, which will be separated by electric-run train systems.  Electric cars will be used in instances where the train cannot be used.

Mandatory schooling (grade K-12) will be taught/enforced on 3 of 5 days a week. Subjects for schooling will be: farming, nutrition, house-building, home-economics (sewing, fixing things - for both male and female students) simple mathematics, reading, science, (students can elect to read WHATEVER THEY WANT),

The other 2 days of the week are to be spent at voluntary classes on various subjects such as nutrition, home repair, clothing repair, gardening, sexuality (what is sex?), and/or with family members and at home/outdoors exploring/finding hobbies.

In the area of Sex Education, sex (the "purposes of sex"- as a form of reproduction VS entertainment/etc. and "consequences" - birth/STDs/etc) should be taught about in 7th grade and contraceptives should be given out.

Farms and agriculture will be closely connected to cities and as a general rule, any plant that can grow naturally (without pesticides/intense lighting) should be grown in the areas of the country where they are naturally found.

*If price increases on produce don't make people less obese, having access to nutritional classes, 2 days more a week to spend with family and exercise, as well as the abolishing of factory farmed meat will certainly help decrease it!

6) WOMEN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE
Abortions should be available to anyone who wants one. If someone does not want to have a child, they should not be forced to. If society forces someone to go through with a pregnancy, it suggests society values the life of the unborn over the pregnant woman. Also, what kind of life is in store for a child who is not wanted by their mother? Abortion seems like a logical solution. (Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control; contraceptives should be)

7) HEALTH CARE
Health insurance will be low cost (doctors visits $10; surgeries $1000 at the highest) for people who refrain from eating any processed foods and exercise at a gym or outdoors at least 3-5 times per week.

Health insurance/surgeries will be more money for people who eat processed foods and/or do not exercise at least 3 times a week. It is not fair that people who make a concerted effort to be healthy should have to pay the same price in Health insurance as people who eat only junk food and live inactive lifestyles. (exercising from moderate to intense levels less than 3 hours a week)

All processed foods should be categorized under the category of Drugs, and not sold to people under the age of 18. All processed foods (fun things like Doritos, Dunkaroos, gummy bears, all crap etc) should be labeled with a Warning and all people who purchase these processed foods will have to pay extra for their Health Insurance.

8) ANIMAL WELFARE / TREATMENT
It should be illegal to kill any animals* except in the case of self defense.

This law would prohibit meat consumption unless the animal had died of natural causes.
Until this conversion of the meat industry goes towards faux meat / a no-kill law goes into effect, all slaughterhouses and factories will have to offer daily tours of all their facilities and interviews with slaughterhouse workers so people all over the world can see the brutality and violence that occurs both to the suffering animals but also to the workers who have to do the slaughtering.

It should be mandatory for school children to visit slaughterhouses and let them see what goes on. If parents refuse, they should not be allowed to feed their children any meat products.

9) ANIMAL RIGHTS - SPECIFICALLY FUR/LEATHER

With our current fur production system, animals are brutally killed, even for fancy brands like Prada.
(Fur farms in China and Europe pull the tails and fur off of animals while they're still alive - no joke!)
10) TRANSPORTATION
All forms of transportation will run on renewable fuels such as electric and solar. All car companies will be forced to fund research to making renewable fueled cars and be forced to switch over to producing models of cars/vans that run on renewable sources. The technology exists to produce cars like this; It will be illegal to drive any cars after 2020 that use non-renewable sources.

Globalwide companies like Nike shoes, Dow chemical corp., etc. will continue to exist but will have to meet very stringent policies. There will be no more than a 20% difference in payment between any worker at any factory/company. All factory workers will receive 80% of the CEO/CFO/top executives pay.

Like transportation, all industry/factories will run on renewable fuels such as electric and solar. There will be NO chemical run-off allowed by the factory.

All other products that are part of capitalism/consumerism (such as clothing, gadgets, beauty products, anything UNNECESSARY) will be produced by hand and therefore, people will have to create their OWN things (since mass-produced items will be more expensive and less available)

There will be no draft for wars. Only people who sincerely want to fight for our country will be enlisted in an army. Any combat that takes place should be done in a boxing ring.

There will be one prison per city and prisoners will be forced to do community service within their jail every day, along with attending counseling.

14) TAXES/TAX CUTS
Taxes will be dependent on income/lifestyle. If you make over $100,000, you must spend 20% of that on taxes. This will go towards subsidising health care.

15) PROSTITUTION
After thinking about this a lot (why, I don't know...), I think prostitution should be legalized. I think that people who are going to cheat on their spouses will find a way no matter what, and if prostitution was legalized, I feel that marriages would stay together longer and there would be lower incidence of rape. Prostitutes will have to receive licenses like any other medical profession and will have to be tested weekly for STDS and other transferable diseases. Similarly, all 'patients' going to prostitutes will have to take a test every week to make sure they are STD free, along with counseling sessions if they are married, to figure out why their marriage isn't working.

16) ELECTIONS + LOBBYING
Presidential elections will happen every 4 years and each presidential nominee will receive absolutely no money from citizens or corporations. Presidents and all government officials will receive equal air-time on the Internet/television outlets.

Personally, I think it is so unfair that corporations can donate money to political campaigns because then politicians owe their elections to these companies and then have to make political decisions to benefit their benefactors (even if it hurts other people)

Really environmentally destructive corporations such as Wal-Mart, Halliburton, Intel, Kraft Foods and General Electric have all donated lots of money to Obama. I won't even begin to mention all of the horrible corporations that have spent a lot of money trying to get Romney elected but you can see a list here.

17) DEATH PENALTY
The Death Penalty will be the last option after remedial education/therapy for any time of lawbreakers. However, if someone rapes or murders (murder except in the case of self defense), then they will be put to death immediately - and the family of the victim should be allowed to watch them be killed (if they want).
Like 1800's heartthrob Freddy Douglas once said...

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.”
